The fantastic Sarah Burke has been responsible for inspiring several slimmers with her own incredible Slimming World weight loss. You can see Sarah's story on her personal Facebook and Instagram accounts and get lots of inspiration when it comes to sticking to a Slimming World diet.
We recently had a chat with Sarah about her recent engagement to fiance, Brian, and discussed all things weddings.
Hi Sarah. Congratulations on your recent engagement! Tell us how did you and Brian meet?
"Oh, God!!! Ok, so back in 2013, on the August Bank holiday weekend my previous relationship had broken up and I went out with my sister Donna and our best friend Karen. We headed to town but none of us wanted to be there. A
local bar would have been better. All dolled up, we decided to head to Blackpool only for it to be last call. Luckily my uncle Alan invited us over to the bar he was in, The Gerald Griffin Bar.
When we got there, I looked at the other two thinking 'We are off our games, we should have stayed in town!' It wasn't the size of my kitchen but the minute I walked in, I fell for the barman - Brian. That night I was a bit worse for wear and instead of taking advantage he gave me water and got me home. That's where it all began. It wasn't until 3 years later that we actually got together!"
How and where did Brian pop the question? Were you expecting it?
"In Puerto del Carmen on September 27th, 2018.
No I wasn't expecting it. First thing I asked was where did he get the money! I knew we would always get engaged but never thought he had it in him to organise it himself.
We flew out with friends of ours on our son's 2nd birthday. He had told them about what he was going to do as he needed them to set it up. The night before we all went to the beach with the kids. I was oblivious that they were mapping it all out.
On the evening he proposed, he had the beach set up with glass jars. Each jar had a quote or lyrics from songs that had meaning to us.The jars led me up to a final spot that was all set up with a bottle of personalised wine but in it was a letter he wrote because he knew he would forget what he wanted to say. Then Luke, our son, walked towards him with a box. He got down on one knee and I said yes!"
What’s your engagement ring like? Did Brian choose it or did you?
"We had looked at rings, I won't lie. I always had a ring in mind that was 'the one' but he knows me better obviously because it's more divine than any ring I would have wanted. It has 4 diamonds either side of the main diamond and the main diamond is made up of clusters of diamonds."
Have you set a date?
"We have indeed. Friday, 13th March, 2020! (Loads think we are crazy Friday the 13th but I feel we have had our own fair share of ups and downs so a number won't dictate how my day will go)."
Have you started your wedding planning?
"I've suprised myself if I'm honest. I'm very laid back and calm about it all. No stress. All the big things like our venue are booked."
How do you envision your wedding day?
"Calm and magical. Just a calm day with our close family & friends. I just want to have the day be as calm as it can be and enjoy every moment but yet have it feel magical and embrace it all."
Where to for your honeymoon?
"Oh, that one we haven't decided yet. I just can't decide do we take our little boy or not. Ideally I would go to Dubai or the Dominican Republic."
Enjoy every second of the lead up, guys. Have a ball!
Launched by The Saoirse Foundation in 2013, BUMBLEance, The Children’s National Ambulance Service, is the world’s first state-of-the-art ambulance service specifically designed and tailored exclusively for children. BUMBLEance was the brainchild of Mary and Tony Heffernan, who experienced the struggle of caring for sick children when their own critically ill children, Saoirse and Liam, spent so much time on the road going to and from hospital appointments.
We recently met Liam and Mary at the Munster Wedding Expo and they told us all about BUMBLEance. We were really touched by their story and feel that it's one that might resonate with some of our readers.
Hi Tony and Mary. Thanks for chatting with us. Tell us what services do you offer patients?
We provide a National service for critically ill & seriously injured children who NEED ambulance transportation:
We facilitate up to two parents/carers to travel with their sick child.
How are you funded?
We are heavily reliant on the good will and generosity of the public and of course our Corporate Sponsors and we are always on the lookout for more. We do apply for Grants as and when they become available however these can be hard to win.
Tell us about the wedding favours that BUMBLEance offer.
We know that most couples will treat their guests to some special gifts on their wedding day. If you're seeking an alternative to your run-of-the-mill wedding favours, BUMBLEance offer beautiful wedding favour cards. These cards are specially designed, and we sell these from our Head Office and on our website. We would ask that a Bride & Groom choose to donate to us in lieu of having favours on their tables for their guests at their weddings and to spread the word.
In return, couples will receive a thank you letter from BUMBLEance because that is the most important thing to us – to say a heartfelt thanks to people for their support. They also get to know that they are helping families all over Ireland and relieving some of the stresses that are in involved with taking a seriously ill child backwards and forwards for appointments that be hundreds of miles away from their homes.
On occasion the trip that a child makes may be their last trip – we call that an “Angel Trip” where they go home to spend the rest of their time with their families and make final memories – that is priceless for families.
What other ways can our readers help BUMBLEance to fundraise?
We are open to all types of fundraising ideas from bag packs to coffee mornings, to sponsored walks/runs. People can organise Karaoke/Race Nights, Quizzes. Golf Classics/ Sponsored Silences for school children or “GO without your phone for a day.” We also have our Text Line to 50300 where you can text the word Fuel for €2 and we will receive €1.80 of each donation.
Whatever is organised we can assist with and provide all the necessary fundraising materials – just email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have you any big plans for 2019?
We have exciting plans for 2019 as we are just about to launch BUMBLEance 9 & 10 and our new Chemo Cab.
We are delighted to announce that BUMBLEance No 9 is for the Cork Region alone and we are so grateful for everyone who has helped us so far to get to this point.
We have lots of different events also planned for 2019 and we will keep everyone posted and if you see the BUMBLEance on your travels – give us a beep and a thumbs up but most of all don’t forget to donate!
Best of luck with it Tony, Mary and team! If any of our readers would like to order wedding favour cards from BUMBLEance or organise a fundraiser, you can do so here.

In keeping with the spirit of Valentine's Day, the Cork Weddings Magazine team recently caught up with the lovely Mary from Cork aesthetic clinic - Celeste Medical, to discuss her recent engagement to fiance Scott and to see how those wedding plans are coming along!
Congratulations on your engagement Mary. It's all very exciting! Tell us, how did you and Scott meet?
"We met sixteen years ago when we were fourteen years old. We were childhood friends for years. We started to date over three years ago now. We always kept in contact."
How did Scott propose?
"Our engagement happened at Lough Hyne. We went for a walk to take in the views and he proposed at the top of the hill walk, overlooking the beautiful lake Lough Hyne.
Scott had booked a romantic night away in Cottages for Couples in Skibbereen. We went back there to celebrate with Champagne. It was a night away that he booked to celebrate my 30th birthday, so it was double celebrations for us."
Tell us about the ring?
"My ring is a round cut solitaire that we bought in Keanes jewellers Cork. We picked the ring out together. I love it so much. It’s absolutely perfect."
Are you looking forward to the wedding celebrations?
"We can’t wait! We are both very excited. The wedding plans are now in full swing! We’ve booked our band, and photographer, all the main things are done. We are currently getting the smaller jobs organized.
I’ve bought my dress in The Wedding Club London. I love it! It’s my dream dress. I’m having 5 bridesmaids, my sister and my 4 best friends. We are all so excited for the morning of the wedding. Lots of girly fun to be had."
Where are you having your wedding?
"Our wedding is in Kilshane House, Bansha Tippearary. It’s a very elegant house with old vibes, 320 acres of private parkland and gorgeous greenery. It has a beautiful conservatory which is where our Prosecco reception will be held. We both love this room. It has a hidden aviary in the glasshouse."
Where are you going on your Honeymoon?
"We are off to Las Vegas and Hawaii. We want beaches, good food, luxury hotels, and a lot of relaxing."
Enjoy it, guys! From all the Cork Weddings Magazine team x

This home care kit promises to completely overhaul the complexion to leave you looking and feeling radiant and vitalised. This home peel kit has been designed to improve current courses of treatment being undertaken or can be used on its own to reveal instantly more youthful skin.
A light chemical peel is a non-invasive treatment that removes the upper layer of dead skin and damaged skin and encourages skin cell regeneration. This type of peel provides a gentle treatment for fine lines, acne, chronic dry skin and uneven pigmentation.
Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator
This is perfect for both sensitive and dry skin. Micro-spherical Jojoba beads are blended with hydrating Rose Absolute to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin leaving it silky smooth and soft to the touch. Cucumber Extract-rich in Vitamin C, a natural anti-oxidant moisturises as it soothes and refreshes.
Sisley Paris Botanical Gentle Buffing Cream
If you have sensitive skin and feel most exfoliators are too harsh, you'll love this. This buffing cream contains Matricaria, a botanical extract that has soothing and softening properties, which means it can be used on the most sensitive of skin. Plus, it dries like a mask and you roll it off to remove it.
Trust us, your skin will be looking like new in no time.

The question, do you bring a handbag or clutch with you on your wedding day? Many brides opt not to bring a bag with them, but your bridesmaid should definitely have the following five wedding day handbag essentials with them in case of any emergencies.
Compact Translucent Powder with Mirror
This will serve as a 2-in-1. A handy mirror to check yourmake-up but also to help set your make-up again and take away excess shine if needed.
Keep shine away with oil-absorbing sheets. You don't have to resort to tampering with your make-up, just fix the shine instead.
Have your shade of choice with you to touch up your lip colour as often as you wish during the day. Bring lipliner too if you're a devoted lipstick addict like us.
Do you always cry at weddings? Best to bring the tissues then. We really recommend waterproof mascara as well. There's nothing worse than the fatal mix of mascara stains with white dresses...
You'll be doing plenty of talking and plenty of kissing on your wedding day. Breath mints will keep your breath minty fresh for the duration of the day.
Have you any other handbag recommendations to share with our readers? Let us know in the comments.

We might think the job is done when our bridal gown has been chosen, but we keep forgetting what's going under our gowns.
Choosing the right foundation is just as important as picking your dress. Specialised lingerie is there to enhance and show off your best assets. The wrong underwear and support could end up in catastrophe and easily destroy the whole look on your big day.
The first thing to have in mind when going lingerie shopping is the best shape; cut and material of your dress; what type of neckline it has - strapless, racer, backless; what parts of your curves you want to enhance and what you need an extra hand with. Follow these steps to get your foundation right.
Even though we think we know our size, most of the time we are wrong. Depending on brand and style, measurements can vary. Whether you choose thick shape wear, corset, backless, it has to fit perfectly. VPL is the last thing you want to see in your wedding album.
Splash Out a Bit
Stretch the budget, it's a once off and generally price reflects quality. Therefore the higher the quality undergarments are usually the most expensive.
Remember Comfort and Practicality
It's a long day of sitting, eating and dancing. It's easy to forget about practicality and simple things like going to the restroom can prove problematic with the wrong underwear. If your dress is tight fitting and requires shapewear, then it might be a good idea to get a shape skirt.
A backless gown will need a stick-on bra or built-in cups. Stick-on gel cups are not a good option as they are too heavy.
Choose the Right Colour
Colour is important. Choosing ivory tends to be the first choice for brides but leave that for the wedding night. Ivory on ivory will shine through the layer of material and show up on photos. It's a more sensible to choose nude or blush.
We hope these tips help you to choose underwear that's as stylish as it is comfortable for your wedding day.
