“Sustainability” is a word we’re hearing all the time in 2020 and it means something different to everyone. For us here at Cork Weddings Magazine, it means using a KeepCup instead of a disposable cup for our morning coffee; reducing our single use plastics; and, finally, researching fun ways to repurpose your bridal gown after your wedding day.
Pass It onto the Next Generation: We’re thinking luxury christening gown or communion dress. How satisfying would it be to forever remind your children that you ‘gave them the clothes off your back’? Irish Mammy rule no. 1 - check.

Wedding Dates HQ have released their results of the Ultimate Irish Wedding Survey and what better day than Valentine’s Day to explore the results? Grab a cup of tea and be prepared to justify those wedding extras you’ve been thinking about for weeks!
For the third year, Wedding Dates HQ surveyed 1000 engaged people all over Ireland about their upcoming nuptials, typically aged between 25-34. The vast majority of respondents (87%) were female, while 1 in 10 were grooms, most of whom were planning a 2020 or 2021 wedding.
Thinking of a summer weekend wedding in Ireland? You’re not alone. Wedding Dates HQ says: “Summer weddings are still a favourite with Irish couples with July overtaking June this year along with August as the most popular months to wed. This year it's neck and neck as to whether couples will opt for a Friday or Saturday at 42% each, with 9% opting for Thursday. Most people will still marry here at home but those opting to marry abroad or elope has risen slightly to 10%.”
Surprisingly, church weddings saw a small increase to 56% this year, with 27% opting for a Civil Ceremony at their venue. Humanist and Outdoor ceremonies account for 6% each, according to Wedding Dates HQ. When it comes to venues, hotels are still the most popular venue among 6 in 10 couples, however, 22% of couples now opt for Country Houses or Exclusive Use Venues.
You’ve secured the man, the venue, the suppliers of your choice… Now for the most important detail of all - how is your hair going to be secured? Should you let your guests see those extra 2 inches of length you’ve managed to achieve over the winter months, through careful hair masks and whispered encouragement to your luscious locks? Or should you go for an elegant and regal up-style to make the entrance like the 2020 queen you know you are? Lucky for you, we at Cork Weddings Magazine have done our research (wouldn’t be like us to turn down a scroll through Pinterest) and have compiled our absolute favourite bridal hairstyles for 2020.
A absolute favourite of ours, yet not overly popular, this is such a glamourous hairstyle that many brides may feel most comfortable wearing on their wedding day. For those who wear their hair down every day, it can be a great option to feel like an extra glam version of yourself on the big day.
